No official talks for the release of the captives have taken place.
Mr Macro is in Mali to talk about the formation of a regional squad that will meet the militants.
Speaking in Bamako, Macro said that France and five Sahel countries including Mali, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mauritania and Niger were expected to work together to destroy terrorists.
Among the captured civilians in the region include Sophie Petronin, who was kidnapped in December in Gao, where he was leading a non-governmental organization that helped children with malnutrition.
The speaker said on the video that Mrs. Petroni was hoping that Macro would help return to his family.
